The Power of Acceptance: Being Comfortable in Your Skin

“Acceptance” is such a beautiful word, yet most of us prefer to stay away from its benefits. Acceptance brings calmness and the inner peace we have all been looking for.

How often do you accept yourself for the way you are? Observe babies and toddlers—they have no shame or fear (except for their innate fear of falling and loud noises). They do what they wish without any qualms.

As they grow, they absorb the messages and energies of the people around them, become ashamed of their actions for no reason, and stop believing in themselves by embracing the fears of their parents, teachers, and the world around them.

We are those children.

Reflect on your early life experiences. What experiences have defined the quality of your life?

How often do you accept yourself for the way you are? You find yourself gaining weight and start cursing your body shape and size, signing up for health programs to get back in shape. Great plan!

But have you ever questioned yourself—are you losing weight just to look good and impress the people around you, or do you genuinely wish to get back in shape?

So, when you feel low or lonely, why do you not take action to get your emotional well-being back in shape? It’s not about being fit or fat; it’s about being your true self! Stop making excuses and stop blaming the world for all your problems!

Reflect within to find your true self and accept yourself the way you are!

I have known many people who are fine just the way they are—FIT or FAT. They have complete control over their mind, healthily express themselves, and, most importantly, have taken complete charge of their lives.

They can do this because they have ACCEPTED themselves for who and what they are. There is no fakeness in them. We stop faking when we accept ourselves.

Here is how you can begin your journey towards self-acceptance:

  1. Reflect – Reflect on your beliefs, perceptions, and narratives that have shaped your life’s story. Do this without judging yourself or others.
  2. Heal – Healing happens when you connect with your past pain and traumas. Decode the lessons they have for you and let them go. Talking about your pain and lessons helps you heal.
  3. Realign – Challenge all your beliefs and judgments about yourself. Focus on uncovering your inner strength and reshaping your narratives. You need to put in effort just as you would to get back into your best physical shape.
  4. Visualize – Visualize a version of yourself that aligns with your mindset and capabilities.
  5. Awareness – Become aware of your unhealthy thoughts and feelings by keeping a tally. This will help you train your mind to release unhealthy thoughts and feelings.
  6. Acceptance – Acceptance will happen gradually through daily awareness and reshaping of your mindset, thoughts, and feelings. You will eventually start accepting yourself for who you are and become comfortable in your skin. Finding inner peace will happen automatically once you master the art of self-acceptance.

Next time you find yourself judging your appearance or the way you speak, reflect on whose message you are carrying in your head.

It’s time to Reflect, Realign, and Rewire the way you Think and Feel about yourself and the world around you.

You are already the best version of yourself – reflect within and grow!
