Stop Living in Fear

I had the privilege of collaborating with Vishal (name altered for privacy) to support him in conquering his fear of failure. Vishal, a seasoned tech professional with over 12 years of experience in software development, grappled with a common apprehension that many of us encounter – the ‘fear of authority’.

While he was adept at handling technical challenges and orchestrating his team’s workflow, he struggled significantly in his interactions with clients and his supervisor.

In our discussions, Vishal recounted instances where his manager publicly berated him, which left him feeling incompetent in front of his team. Additionally, his clients lacked confidence in him and often leaned on his manager for guidance. These experiences took a toll on Vishal’s self-assurance, eventually resulting in him being placed on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).

Many of us can relate to this distress, especially when our #contributions are taken for granted. This situation often arises because we surrender our power to those around us. Often, due to a lack of self-awareness, our focus tends to gravitate toward our own perceived shortcomings, failures, and mistakes.

The origins of these self-limiting beliefs can often be traced back to our formative years, where we internalized notions of not being “good enough.” It is now an opportune moment to introspect, decipher, and release these self-imposed limitations.

We are designed to thrive and succeed through self-empowerment. Vishal embarked on a series of sessions to break free from his self-imposed constraints. Today, he not only adeptly manages his work and team but also enjoys a harmonious rapport with his new supervisor.

When we alter our self-perceptions, the world around us begins to take notice and encourages us to excel, much like what happened with Vishal. By altering his self-perception and attitude toward his work, he was able to progress steadily.

As humans, it is imperative that we recognize our fears, interpret the messages they convey, and concentrate on harnessing our strengths to initiate an inner transformation.

Did you know? Approximately 71% of professionals in India, particularly in sectors such as Finance, Insurance, Software, IT services, Healthcare, and Manufacturing, harbor concerns about job displacement or being overlooked for career advancement, in contrast to the global figure of 21%.

‘Fear’ is a potent emotion, one that is intended to propel our growth as individuals. Regrettably, we have often overlooked the positive aspects of this emotion. The fundamental message that ‘fear’ imparts is to have #faith in our capabilities and take action.

So, Stop Living in Fear and embrace the boundless potential of self-belief.
