Redefining Narratives: Rewrite Your Life’s Story

Have you ever tried the Adjectives Game? It’s an entertaining activity perfect for spicing up any trip or offsite. But let me share a story that goes beyond the game itself.

In this game, participants must swiftly conjure adjectives to describe whoever’s name is called. It’s a mix of fun and challenge, influenced by personalities and choices of descriptors.

During one offsite in 2009, we decided to play. I was eager, anticipating what my colleagues thought of me based on the adjectives they’d choose. Little did I know, the outcome would sting.

As my name echoed in the room, I braced myself. But the descriptors that followed shattered me: “Indecisive,” “Silent Sheep,” “Has No Views,” and “Weak.” Sure, there were a few positives, but the negatives cut deep. I played it cool, but inside, I was hurting.

Those words lingered, affecting my mindset. My turning point came with the guidance of my counselor, who served as my catalyst, propelling me into a journey of self-discovery. With her support, I delved into the depths of my being, unraveling layers of my true self and reshaping my mindset from within. My success today is indebted to her unwavering assistance.

I realized my colleagues’ descriptors were based on visible behaviors, like shying away from presentations, avoiding voicing my opinions, and going along with the flow without a peep. No wonder, I was being labeled as indecisive, silent, and lacking in viewpoints.

Our behaviors are like the tip of the iceberg, visible to others but hiding deeper truths. It’s up to us to delve into our past experiences and emerge as our true selves. My colleagues described me aptly based on the behaviors I was displaying. No hard feelings today!

My early experiences left scars, hindering my confidence and potential. But that was then (PAST). Today (PRESENT), I run my own business, seek opportunities to speak and guide others to thrive and succeed through self-awareness and purposefulness.

In April (FUTURE), I’ll be delivering a LIVE Talk on reshaping life narratives and empowering others to rewrite their stories. It’s a reminder that we all have a story to tell, but we must reflect on the narratives driving our lives and rewrite them to lead empowering lives.

Here are three things that enabled me to transform into a better and stronger version of myself:

  • Reflecting on the narratives and the identity I held in my mind about myself.
  • Rescripting my patterns, rewriting my narratives, and shifting my identity.
  • Believing in myself and aligning with my overall purpose.

So, what’s your narrative? Don’t let others’ perceptions define you. Reflect on your true self and emerge victorious. You’re born to win, and the world is waiting to hear your story!
