This is one FEAR that doesn’t let you live in peace. Roots of this fear (like any other) can be traced back to our childhood.

It is one of the most common fears at the workplaces and sufferers of this fear often find it difficult to converse with their supervisors and others in a leadership position. They may hesitate to ask questions and avoid giving their views and recommendations during meetings. All those suffering from this type of fear will realize how damaging it can be to their reputation, professional relationships and careers. Their peers may tag them as ‘indecisive’ because of their inability to speak up!

These could be some of the probable causes of having this fear:

• Growing up in a strict household
• Constant hammering of Disempowering messages into your consciousness

• Often asked to follow rules blindly

Here are some basic techniques and steps you could follow to overcome your fear of authority:

1. Connect to your fears and painful memories
2. Decode lessons and put those lessons into practice
3. Focus on identifying your Strengths and Developmental areas – helps in building your self-worth.
4. While talking, focus on the person (authoritative figure) and not the position or behavior
5. Observe your Behavior during discussions and meetings.
6. Be Who You Are
7. Learn to be Assertive – practice being assertive twice in a week and gradually increase the frequency

It is important to understand how this fear (or any other) is holding you back. Connect to that fear and set yourself free!
