6 Steps to Overcome Your Fear of Self-Expression

#DarrKeAageJeetHai

This is another FEAR that doesn’t let you live in peace. Roots of this fear too can be traced back to our childhood.

It is one of the most common fears at the workplaces and is closely linked to low self-esteem. Sufferers of this fear often find it difficult to speak up during meetings, share their thoughts with people, have fear of performance, they often hold back on their emotions and do not stand-up for self. Most of the people having this fear tend to be Passive-Aggressive.  People (especially your peers and friends) will tag you as ‘indecisive’ or ‘someone who has no views’. Unfortunately, very few leaders will focus on helping their people overcome this fear.

These could be some of the probable causes of having this fear:

  • Growing up in a strict household
  • Victim of Conflicting Messages from Parents (Think vs Don’t Think)
  • Socio-Environmental challenges (no permission to speak or ask questions, etc)
  • Victim Mentality
  • Trust issues (self and others)
  • Low self-esteem
  • Constant hammering of Disempowering messages into your consciousness

Here are some steps you could take to Overcome Your Fear of Self-Expression:

  1. Identify & Reset Your Limiting Beliefs that have been holding you back
  2. Take Baby steps to overcome your fear (E.g. speak atleast once or twice in a week to share your views)
  3. Love Yourself for Who You Are
  4. Record Your Talk on Phone/Laptop – identify gaps and apply learnings on-the-job
  5. Be Who You Are – it is alright to be an Introvert.
  6. Believe in Yourself and Move Forward.

Remember that Everything you’ve ever wanted is sitting on the other side of fear (George Addair’s quote). So, Take Action and Bounce Forward in Life!
